Rishabh Pant Assigned as The New Captain of LSG
Rishabh Pant has been officially appointed as the captain of Lucknow Super Giants.
Rishabh Pant has been appointed to lead the LSG (Lucknow Super Giants) for the 2025 IPL (Indian Premier League).
Pant used to lead the Delhi Capitals now chooses to enter the auction and become the highest-selling player of the IPL history, and with that Super Giants secure their left-handed wicketkeeper batter with a total of 27 crore.
The Super Giants started bidding for Pant, whose base price in the auction was INR 2 Crore. They outbid Royal Challengers Bengaluru first and then Sunrisers Hyderabad, raising their bid to INR 20.75 Crore. However, the Capitals matched this bid using the RTM (Right to Match) card. Following the new IPL auction rules, which allow the original bidder to increase their offer after the RTM is used, the Super Giants raised their bid to INR 27 Crore to secure the 27-year-old Pant.
The Super Giants were searching for a new captain, preferably an Indian player, after releasing KL Rahul. Pant became their first pick in the auction as they began assembling a refreshed squad, focusing on an India-centric pace attack as their key strength.
This marks Pant's second stint as an IPL captain, having led the Capitals from 2021 until the last season. However, he missed the entire 2023 IPL season due to recovery from a serious road accident.
The Super Giants retained key players like Nicholas Pooran (INR 21 Cr), Ravi Bishnoi (INR 11 Cr), Mayank Yadav (INR 11 Cr), Mohsin Khan (INR 4 Cr), and Ayush Badoni (INR 4 Cr). They also secured notable overseas players, including Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, and David Miller, while bolstering their pace department with Avesh Khan (INR 9.75 Cr) and Akash Deep (INR 8 Cr).
Pant will now work alongside head coach Justin Langer and mentor Zaheer Khan to lead the Super Giants into a promising new IPL cycle.
