Rizwan Named Captain For White-Ball Teams; Babar, Afridi, And Naseem To Join Australia Tour

Rizwan Named Captain For White-Ball Teams; Babar, Afridi, And Naseem To Join Australia Tour

Pakistan Cricket Board have named Mohammad Rizwan as the permanent white-ball captain.

The new white ball captain has been announced by the Pakistan cricket selection board and now Rizwan will lead the team. That would be his first assignment in the ODI and T20I series would be against Australia this coming month. In the squad, there will be also the return of Naseem Shah, Shah Afridi and Babar Azam. This trio has not been included in the last two tests played against England, now they will be returning to the white ball format.
Salman Ali Agha, who is part of all four white-ball squads for the away tours, has been chosen as vice-captain. He will lead the team in the T20I series against Zimbabwe, while Rizwan will not be playing in that series.
Rizwan's statement from the PCB said, "I promise to give my very best in this role and look forward to working with the selectors, coaches, and my talented teammates. Together, we want to meet and exceed what our fans and supporters expect from us."
Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq, who did not receive a central contract, are not in any squad. However, central contracts don't always show who will be in the squad. Mohammad Hasnain didn't get a central contract, but his great performance in the Champions One-Day Cup, where he was named Player of the Tournament, has gotten him a spot in all four squads. Shadab Khan has been removed from the squad, while left-arm wrist spinner Sufiyan Muqeem has been added to both T20I teams. Offspin-bowling allrounder Qasim Akram will be heading to Zimbabwe for the T20Is.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated that Fakhar's tweet criticizing Babar's removal from the Test team contributed to his exclusion, but he emphasized that it wasn’t the main reason. "The tweet is a concern for us," Naqvi said. "However, the bigger issue is that he didn't pass his fitness test. We need to sort out his situation regarding the notice he received, and he must pass the fitness test afterwards. That's why he's not included. He spoke positively at the camp, and his willingness to share his thoughts helped us improve our international department, which I appreciate. But it’s not acceptable for a player to criticize the selection committee on social media. That will always be unacceptable."
Mohammad Haris, the wicketkeeper for Pakistan Shaheens, has fallen down the rankings and didn't make any of the squads. Instead, Haseebullah Khan, who played one T20I in New Zealand in January, has been included in all four squads. Saim Ayub, his teammate from Peshawar Zalmi known for his T20 hitting, won't be part of the T20I series due to a poor run of form, but he has made it into both ODI squads.
The ODI series against Australia will start on November 4, marking Pakistan's first ODIs since the World Cup in India last year. This series begins a busy time in the 50-over format as they prepare for the Champions Trophy in February, which is the first ICC event Pakistan will host since the 1996 World Cup. Following the ODIs against Australia and Zimbabwe, Pakistan will play white-ball matches against South Africa and participate in a tri-series with New Zealand and South Africa in Multan right before the Champions Trophy.
