Roach and Seales Shine as West Indies Take Control, Despite Taskin's Six Wickets
Kemar Roach also took three wickets on the fourth day
Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales took three wickets each to put the West Indies close to winning the first match of the series against Bangladesh in Antigua. They only need to take three more wickets for a comfortable win, even though Taskin Ahmed took six wickets on a busy Day 4 with a total of 17 wickets falling.
Bangladesh unexpectedly declared their innings at 269 for 9 on the morning of the fourth day, leaving them 181 runs behind. The West Indies struggled in their second innings, scoring only 152 runs, thanks to Taskin's first five-wicket haul in Tests. He consistently bowled well, making it tough for the batters and picking up wickets regularly.
Taskin caused a couple of quick dismissals, starting with a lengthy seven-over spell with the new ball. Mikyle Louis was out after just 18 balls, edging a catch to the wicketkeeper, while Keacy Carty fell soon after, giving a catch to the second slip. Shoriful Islam also contributed by getting rid of the set batter Kraigg Brathwaite, who edged a low catch to Mahmudul Hasan Joy at second slip after scoring 23 runs off 35 balls just before the drinks break.
Kavem Hodge and Alick Athanaze provided some resistance in the second half of the session, taking the home team to Lunch without losing any more wickets, ending at 61 for 3 with their lead increasing to 242 runs. However, the session was mostly successful for the visitors, who made a brave declaration that morning.
Both batters used DRS to successfully avoid being given out LBW early in the afternoon session, and Athanaze started to hit more boundaries. But Taskin ended their partnership by getting Hodge to edge a catch to the wicketkeeper, which was Litton Das' 100th catch as a keeper. Mehidy Hasan Miraz then added more trouble for the home team by getting Athanaze out LBW in the next over, leaving the West Indies at 93 for 5, which quickly dropped to 95 for 6 when Taskin dismissed Justin Greaves cheaply for his fourth wicket of the morning.
Right before drinks, Taijul Islam also got involved and ended the brief counterattack from Joshua da Silva, who made 22 off 18 balls. Meanwhile, Alzarri Joseph's luck ran out after a few drops, and Taskin wrapped up the tail by taking the wickets of Shamar Joseph and Roach, turning his first five-wicket haul into six, leaving Bangladesh a challenging target of 334 runs.
Unfortunately, the batters struggled again in Antigua. Roach took three wickets with the new ball as the tourists collapsed to 23 for 4 and couldn't recover from that. Litton tried to fight back, but was quickly shut down by Shamar. Captain Mehidy managed to build a couple of useful partnerships, especially with Jaker Ali, to keep the hosts at bay for a while. However, Seales struck twice late in the day, leaving Bangladesh struggling at 109 for 7 before bad light ended play early.
