Rohit Sharma and Team Land in Colombo for ODI Series; Nayar Takes Charge of Nets!
Rohit Sharma & Co. has arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka for the forthcoming three-matches ODI series.
Rohit Sharma has traveled from the United States and has arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka for the upcoming ODI series starting on 2 August. Besides the Indian captain, the players chosen specifically for the ODIs against Sri Lanka arrived at the ITC Ratnadipa hotel in Colombo on Sunday night. This group included Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Kuldeep Yadav, and Harshit Rana.
As per the source, it has been found that the ODI players are going to participate in the net session on Monday at the stadium. Abhishek Nayar has been appointed by the Indian Team management as the assistant coach for overseeing the sessions under the head coach Gautam Gambhir in Colombo. The Nayar departed for Colombo on Monday morning, following the second T20I on Sunday night.
The rest of the team will join Rohit Sharma just after completing the third match of the T20 series and the final one on July 30. And the team has already won two out of the three T20 matches. Morne Morkel is set to join Gambhir’s coaching staff as a bowling coach. He is expected to start with the home series against Bangladesh in September.
Gambhir recently said that the team management will evaluate the coaching setup during the six-match series in Sri Lanka. They plan to establish a full coaching staff for future series. It's unclear if Sairaj Bahutule, the interim spin bowling coach, will continue. Since Morkel is a fast bowling expert, the team might need a dedicated spin bowling coach.
If Bahutule stays, the team will have two assistant coaches (Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate), a bowling coach (Morkel), a fielding coach (T Dilip), and a spin bowling coach, along with head coach Gambhir. This would make a total of six coaches, which might be considered too many.
India ODI Squad: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh, Riyan Parag, Axar Patel, Khaleel Ahmed, Harshit Rana.
