Rohit Sharma confirms he is not quitting ODIs
India win Champions Trophy. Rohit confirmed he is available for ODI Cricket, stop the retirement rumour.
Rohit Sharma now finally spoke about the rumours of quitting ODI, he said that he is not going to retire from ODI, and he made it clear after India beat New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final on Sunday Night at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Rohit clarified his stance on retirement, saying, "One more thing. I'm not retiring from this format, just to avoid any rumors in the future." Having led India to four ICC trophy finals, winning two of them, he made this statement during a media conference after the final match.
It wasn't a response to a specific question but more of a firm announcement. He also addressed a question partially in Hindi, mentioning, "Future plan? There is no future plan. What is going on, will continue." This indicated that he is still motivated and passionate about the game.
In the Champions Trophy, Rohit scored 180 runs, surpassing 11,000 career runs. Over his 273 ODI matches, he has scored 11,168 runs at an average of 48.76, with 32 centuries, including three double centuries.
Retirement rumors had surfaced during the Champions Trophy, as many thought he might follow the pattern of his retirement from the T20 format last June, after leading India to the T20 World Cup title in Barbados.
Similarly, there were talks about Virat Kohli's potential retirement. However, Kohli performed well in the Champions Trophy after previously facing struggles. He scored 218 runs, including a century, across five matches in the tournament. Like Rohit, Kohli also retired from T20Is last June in Barbados.
