SA batted first and made two changes; Mahidul is making his debut for Bangladesh

Aiden Markram and Tony de Zorzi shared their third fifty-plus opening stand in four Tests to get South Africa off to a strong start on a batter-friendly pitch in Chattogram.

A new wicketkeeper has debuted by Bangladesh that would be Mahidul Islam Ankon on the eve of the match, In a team with three changes from the one that lost to South Africa last week, Litton Das, their experienced wicketkeeper, had to miss the match because he got a fever.
Jaker Ali needs to be placed by the team as at the time practice session he has faced some concussion. Zakir Hasan, who made a great debut by scoring a century in the second innings at this same place, was included in the team. Bangladesh also changed their strategy by replacing offspinner Nayeem Hasan with seamer Nahid Rana, showing they had an idea of how the pitch would behave.
South Africa added an extra fast bowler, Dane Paterson, in place of Dane Piedt, while keeping two main spin bowlers. They also brought in left-arm allrounder Senuran Muthusamy to replace specialist batter Matthew Breetkze. Muthusamy has played three Tests, with his last match in March 2023 against the West Indies at home.
This lineup looks more balanced than the one that won in Mirpur, where they only had four bowlers. Now, they have five bowlers, including three fast bowlers, and they can still bat down to No. 8 in the order.
Stand-in captain Aiden Markram, stepping in for the injured Temba Bavuma, chose to bat first on a hot and humid day in Chattogram, which is known as the flattest pitch in the country.
Getting wickets will be important for both teams as Bangladesh aims to finish their home season strong, possibly in Najmul Hossain Shanto's last game as captain. Meanwhile, South Africa is looking to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final. They have five matches left in the 2023-2025 cycle and need to win at least four to have a chance at playing in the finals at Lord’s next year.
Bangladesh: Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahidul Islam (wk), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nahid Rana, Zakir Hasan. Taijul Islam, Hasan Mahmud
South Africa:  Aiden Markram (c), Tony de Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs, David Bedingham, Ryan Rickelton, Kyle Verreynne (wk), Wiaan Mulder, Senuran Muthusamy, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Dane Paterson
