Samson's Century Steals the Show, India Sweeps Series 3-0

Samson's Century Steals the Show, India Sweeps Series 3-0

Sanju Samson scored his maiden T20I hundred off just 40 balls.

Sanju Samson's remarkable maiden T20I century propelled India to a colossal total of 297 for 6, their highest-ever score in T20I history. This exceptional feat, surpassed only by Nepal's record of 314 for 3, showcased India's exceptional batting prowess. Samson's blistering innings of 111 runs from just 47 deliveries was ably supported by Suryakumar Yadav's 75 runs from 35 balls, resulting in a formidable partnership of 173 runs from 69 balls. To further solidify India's position, Hardik Pandya and Riyan Parag contributed blistering cameos towards the end of the innings, hitting an impressive 25 fours and 22 sixes. Riding on this monumental total, India clinched a decisive 3-0 series victory over Bangladesh, who fell short by a substantial 133 runs in their final T20I match under the leadership of veteran Mahmudullah.
Having elected to bat first in front of a jubilant Hyderabad crowd, India cautiously approached the first over, scoring only seven runs. However, they swiftly shifted gears in the second over, as Samson unleashed a barrage of four consecutive boundaries against Taskin Ahmed. Tanzim Hasan managed to dismiss Abhishek Sharma, but Suryakumar Yadav responded with a powerful six to get off the mark. India's momentum continued to build, culminating in a 19-run over against Tanzim during the Powerplay, leaving them comfortably positioned at 82 for 1.
The removal of field restrictions did little to hinder India's progress. Samson reached his half-century in just 22 balls, punishing Rishad Hossain with a 16-run over. He continued his onslaught, launching a magnificent shot over extra-cover off Mustafizur for a maximum. Rishad's struggles deepened in his second over, as Samson mercilessly dispatched five consecutive sixes, accumulating a staggering 30 runs. Bangladesh's bowling attack was in disarray, and Taskin's attempt to bowl a beamer was met with a powerful six from Suryakumar, bringing up the 150-run partnership.
Samson's dominance continued, as he completed his century in a remarkable 40 balls, striking a four over Mahedi's head. However, his innings came to an end shortly after, as he holed out to deep-square leg. Suryakumar Yadav followed suit in the next over, caught at deep mid-wicket off Mahmudullah. Despite these dismissals, Bangladesh's woes were far from over.
Tanzim Hasan's nightmare continued, as Pandya amassed 21 runs off his bowling, while Parag toyed with Mahedi at the other end. Bangladesh's fielding was also plagued by errors, as they missed two simple run-out chances, one of which was particularly comical. Parag was eventually caught on the boundary in the next over, but the fielder had touched the ropes, adding six more runs to the total. Taskin managed to dismiss Parag and Hardik in quick succession, but Rinku Singh capped off the innings with a six off the final ball.
In response, Bangladesh's chase was never truly on track. Parvez Hossain Emon was dismissed first ball by Mayank Yadav, and Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tanzid Hasan faced an uphill battle against India's bowling attack. Tanzid was eventually caught off Sundar at short third-man, and Litton Das found himself under pressure. Shanto's attempt at a reverse sweep against Ravi Bishnoi proved fatal, as the legspinner dismissed him.
Towhid Hridoy and Litton formed a 53-run partnership, offering some resistance. However, Litton's dismissal at the hands of Tilak Varma and Mahmudullah's failure to make a significant impact further hampered Bangladesh's chances. Varun Chakravarthy's economical spell and Nitish's wicket-taking performance put further pressure on Bangladesh, and Rishad's dismissal off Bishnoi sealed their fate. Towhid Hridoy's unbeaten 63 runs were a solitary bright spot for Bangladesh, but they were ultimately outclassed by India's dominant performance.
