Shami, fully pain-free, aims to play domestic matches to prove his fitness for Australia
Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is now fit and wants to play one or two Ranji Trophy games.
Mohammed Shami said that he is totally fine and 100% pain-free now after having the recovery setback and really hoping to play well and prove his fitness for the Australia tour after playing one or two domestic matches.
Shami hasn’t played any match since the 2023 ODI World Cup and revealed that he will bowl with a full-run up on Sunday at Chinnaswamy Stadium, after India vs New Zealand’s conclusion and felt cheerful about his upcoming performance.
"It felt great yesterday. Before that, I was bowling with a short run-up because I didn’t want to put too much strain on my body," Shami said during an event in Gurgaon on Monday (October 21). "Yesterday, we decided I would bowl at full effort for the last two sessions, and I gave it my all. It felt good, and the results were encouraging. Hopefully, I’ll be back to full fitness soon."
Shami had been out with a left Achilles heel injury since the World Cup last year, and knee issues made things worse. Rohit Sharma shared last week that Shami’s knee had swollen after almost reaching full fitness, and it was a tough decision to make about his return. Rohit added that bringing an "undercooked" Shami to Australia wouldn’t be the right choice for the team.
He added, that he knew everyone wanted to know whether he was going to attend the Australia match or not but that is far away right now he is 100% pain-free now.
He mainly wants to focus on how to remain healthy and keep himself fit as well as how to stay fit for the tour. He said he knows what kind of strategy he needs for the test series and he would like to work on that and that is why he wants to spend more time on Ground.
"I’m not sure when I’ll be able to play again, but as soon as I feel comfortable bowling 20-30 overs and get the doctors' approval, I’ll be ready to get back into a match. I want to spend as much time as possible on the field before heading to the Australia series."
The first Test between Australia and India starts in exactly a month, on November 22 in Perth.
