Shami works hard in India's first practice before England T20Is

Mohammed Shami's bowling was the focus of India's first training session in Kolkata ahead of their T20I series against England.

Mohammad Shami is preparing for the T20I series against England that is going to be played on 22 January and for that, he is too focused towards the training session that is happening in Kolkata.
Shami hasn’t played any international matches since 2023 due to his Knee injury but now he is under observation of bowling coach Morne Morkel who will note his progress properly. Shami has swelling on his knee which is why he hasn’t been considered for the Border-Gavaskar test series.
On Sunday, Shami started by marking a good-length spot on the practice pitches and warmed up by bowling with a half run-up for over 20 minutes. Later, he bowled at full speed to openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma in the nets. In between, he practised catching, both short and long-range, with fielding coach T Dilip and head coach Gautam Gambhir. After the net sessions, Shami wrapped up his day with a ten-minute bowling spell on the practice pitches, finishing at nearly full pace.
For more, his fitness was a real concern for the Indian team, but now finally he is making his debut for the coming T20Is and ODIs he is going to be against England, to find out whether he is ready for the Championships Trophy that is going to be held in Karachi on February 19. And India will begin from the next day in Dubai.
Shami is set to lead the pace attack in the five T20Is and three ODIs against England, while Jasprit Bumrah is expected to return and test his fitness in the third ODI on February 12, ahead of the Champions Trophy.
He is one of the fast bowlers in the squad which is seen at training, along with Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Rana didn’t seem to arrive at Sunday’s session.
Rana and Hardik Pandya were the only two players in the squad who both batted and bowled. Hardik also worked on power-hitting alongside Rinku Singh and Dhruv Jurel. Meanwhile, Rinku and Tilak Varma mostly faced spin from Varun Chakravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, and Washington Sundar.
The batters were supported by Sitanshu Kotak, the newly appointed batting coach.
