Shubman Gill's Century Leads India To 3-0 Series Sweep Over England In Final ODI

Gill's hundred and half-centuries from Kohli and Shreyas lead to a 3-0 series sweep against England

Gill smashed 7th ODI Hundred in his 50th ODI Match in Ahmadabad.

England's challenging tour concluded with another big victory for India in the final ODI in Ahmedabad. Shubman Gill hit his seventh century in his 50th ODI for India, with help from Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul. England's attempt to chase the target collapsed halfway, leading to a 142-run defeat.
Faced with a massive target of 357, England started their innings aggressively, as anticipated. Ben Duckett especially attacked India's new ball bowlers, hitting four boundaries against Harshit Rana and then four more in a row against Arshdeep Singh. Due to this aggressive start, England reached 60/0 in just six overs, setting a strong foundation for the chase. However, things took a turn when Duckett mistimed a knuckleball from Arshdeep and was caught out for 34.
Tom Banton, batting at number 3, began with a switch-hit six against Washington Sundar. But at the other end, Phil Salt was dismissed by a slower ball from Arshdeep. Despite England reaching 84 runs in the first nine overs, losing two wickets affected their momentum. Joe Root and Banton stabilized things briefly, with Banton hitting another switch-hit six off Axar Patel. However, Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Banton with a googly, and Root was bowled by Axar shortly after.
Things got worse for England when Rana returned to claim the crucial wicket of Jos Buttler, who chopped the ball onto his stumps. This signaled the beginning of the end for England, as Harry Brook met the same fate against the same bowler in the next over. Despite being expensive earlier, Washington Sundar managed to get Liam Livingstone stumped. Hardik Pandya also took a couple of lower-order wickets, ensuring every Indian bowler claimed at least one scalp. If not for some late hitting by Gus Atkinson, England wouldn't have even reached 200 runs.
Earlier in the day, India showed their strong batting performance to reach over 350 runs after being sent to bat. Rohit Sharma was dismissed early, but Shubman Gill got off to a good start. Virat Kohli, under some pressure, found his rhythm. India scored 52/1 in the first powerplay and continued to dominate as the field spread out. Joe Root was punished by both batters, especially Kohli, who hit four boundaries in two overs, and Gill hit a four and a six against Atkinson.
Both batters then hit sixes off Livingstone before reaching their fifties. Despite this, Adil Rashid managed to get an edge from Kohli, but England couldn't stop the flow of runs. Shreyas Iyer started well again, racing to 40 off 30 balls. Gill, enjoying his time at his favourite venue, scored another century before Rashid dismissed him just as he was looking to accelerate.
Rashid had a good day, also dismissing Shreyas for 78 and removing Hardik on the last ball of his spell. Despite a strong platform, India's hopes of reaching 375 were dampened by Hardik's wicket, followed by Axar's dismissal. KL Rahul, batting at number 5, hit some timely boundaries to score 40 off 29 balls before being trapped lbw by a great yorker from Saqib Mahmood. This allowed England to restrict India's scoring to just 22 runs in the last three overs, but it didn't affect the final outcome.
Brief scores: India 356/10 in 50 overs (Shubman Gill 112, Shreyas Iyer 78; Adil Rashid 4/64, Mark Wood 2/45) beat England 214/10 in 34.2 overs (Gus Atkinson 38; Axar Patel 2/22, Harshit Rana 2/31) by 142 runs
