Smart Bowling on a Slow Pitch Earns MI Another Win
IPL 2025: Hardik Pandya's cameo of 21 off just 9 balls was a decisive blow to SRH's hopes. Tilak Varma played the anchor role and remained unbeaten, guiding MI home.
Mumbai Indians (MI) won a crucial toss, took advantage of the conditions, and secured their third win of IPL 2025 by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by four wickets. They chose to bowl first on a slow Wankhede pitch, restricting SRH to 162/5. MI then chased down the target with 11 balls to spare, helped slightly by the evening dew.
The star performer for MI was Will Jacks. Though he had a slow start to the season, he proved his worth in his sixth match for the team. His quick 36 off 26 balls was useful, but his bigger impact came with his off-spin bowling. He dominated SRH’s left-handed top three, finishing with impressive figures of 2/14 in three overs.
Jack’s performance allowed MI to delay using their Impact Player, even after losing leg-spinner Karn Sharma, who had won Player of the Match in their last game, to an injury before he could bowl. Instead of bringing in a bowler, MI substituted Rohit Sharma at the start of their chase. His quick innings, combined with solid contributions from Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya, ensured MI remained in control, never letting SRH’s bowlers make a comeback.
Despite the strong batting effort, MI’s bowlers won this game. Jasprit Bumrah led the attack brilliantly, while the other fast bowlers backed him up with slower balls and yorkers on a pitch where hard-hitting was difficult.
SRH’s total of 162 came despite a lucky 59-run opening stand between Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. Their scoring was boosted in the final overs, as Heinrich Klaasen, Aniket Verma, and Pat Cummins smashed the only five sixes of the innings, with the 18th and 20th overs adding 21 and 22 runs respectively.
Mumbai Indians (MI) secured their third win of IPL 2025 by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by four wickets.
SRH had a tough time finding rhythm, relying on luck rather than fluency in their batting. They got a few lucky escapes early on, including a dropped catch and a no-ball dismissal. Abhishek Sharma played a decent knock, scoring 40 off 27 balls, but other batters struggled on the slow pitch.
MI’s bowlers, especially Jasprit Bumrah and Will Jacks, controlled the game brilliantly. Jacks not only scored an important 36 runs but also took two key wickets, troubling SRH’s left-handed batters with his off-spin. Bumrah was exceptional, delivering tight overs and taking the crucial wicket of Heinrich Klaasen.
SRH finished strong, scoring 47 runs in the last three overs, but their overall total of 162 wasn’t enough. MI’s chase was solid, with Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton, Jacks, and Suryakumar Yadav contributing valuable runs. Hardik Pandya gave MI the finishing touch, hitting a few boundaries to seal the victory
