South Africa Secures A Ten Wicket Victory Against Pakistan

South Africa took only seven overs to chase down the target of 58 in the fourth innings.

South Africa won the second test without any hassle and with 10 wickets in the final session that was Day 4 in Cape Town and they eventually won the entire series 2-0 against Pakistan. In just seven overs South Africa was able to chase down the target. Pakistan scored 478 runs in their second innings, an impressive performance after being forced to follow on. This victory means South Africa remained unbeaten in Test matches during the 2024/25 season, with nine wins and one draw.
After tea, Pakistan was ready for the comeback, in which Salman Ali Agha and Mohammad Rizwan were over the crease. Two overs in, the batter narrowly avoided being out LBW by getting his bat down just in time before the ball hit his pads. Rizwan reached 400 with a four off Keshav Maharaj, who had yet to take a wicket. However, the 88-run partnership ended when Rizwan softly hit a delivery from Maharaj to Temba Bavuma at cover, resulting in an easy dismissal.
Two balls later, Amir Jamal was knocked out by Aiden Markram and levelled the scores in the same over with a boundary. Agha used DRS to overturn an LBW decision but was caught at slip two balls later off Maharaj. Jamal and Mir Hamza attacked Kagiso Rabada, hitting a few boundaries, with Hamza smashing a beautiful six straight down the ground off a length ball. Shortly after Pakistan's lead passed 50, both batters were dismissed within five balls, leaving the hosts with a small target to chase.
David Bedingham opened up the batting as Ryan Rickelton wasn’t able to bat due to some injury caused by fielding. He played aggressively, scoring 47 off 30 balls with five fours and two sixes. Meanwhile, Aiden Markram kept rotating the strike to finish the chase quickly, securing South Africa’s seventh consecutive Test win.
Earlier in the day, South Africa took two wickets in the first session, dismissing nightwatchman Khurram Shahzad and Kamran Ghulam. Marco Jansen's extra bounce made Shahzad edge one to the point fielder, while Rabada set up Ghulam with several outswingers before bowling him out with a delivery that moved back in. Despite the wickets, Masood kept pushing forward from the other end.
South Africa claimed the crucial wickets of Saud Shakeel and Masood shortly after lunch with the new ball. Kagiso Rabada dismissed Shakeel with a delivery that angled in from around the wicket, which the batter edged to second slip. In the next over, Maphaka trapped Masood LBW after the hosts reviewed the on-field not-out decision by Nitin Menon. The ball struck Masood in line with the off-stump and was straight enough to hit it directly. These two wickets set up South Africa’s victory heading into the final session, despite efforts from Rizwan and Agha to resist.
