South Africa to Lead by Heinrich Klaasen in Pakistan for T20Is
Aiden Markram, along with four other players, to miss the T20Is due to the short turnaround time after the second Test against Sri Lanka.
Heinrich Klaasen will captain South Africa in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Pakistan. Regular captain Aiden Markram, along with Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, and Tristan Stubbs, will miss the series due to Test commitments against Sri Lanka. The second Test is scheduled to end on December 9, just a day before the T20I series begins on December 10 in Durban. However, these players will rejoin the squad for the ODI series starting on December 17.
Ryan Rickelton, Kwena Maphaka, and Matthew Breetzke, who are also part of the Test team, will join the T20 squad after the Test series ends.
Anrich Nortje and Tabraiz Shamsi make their return to the national side after last playing in the T20 World Cup in June. George Linde also earned a call-up after a strong performance in the CSA T20 Challenge, where he scored 171 runs at a strike rate of 178.12 and took nine wickets at an average of 18.33. Shamsi’s availability for the first game will depend on his commitments with the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Global Super League.
Head coach Rob Walter highlighted the experience and balance in the 15-man squad. “All the players are experienced, and we’re focused on building a strong, cohesive team,” Walter said. He also praised Linde’s selection, emphasizing the value of his all-round skills.
“We’re happy to have Anrich and Tabraiz back. Their experience strengthens our bowling attack, which will be crucial against a tough Pakistan side,” Walter added.
After the first game in Durban, the next two matches will be held on December 13 and 14 in Centurion and Johannesburg.
South Africa T20I Squad: Ottneil Baartman, Heinrich Klaasen (C & WK), Matthew Breetzke, Reeza Hendricks, Patrick Kruger, Donovan Ferreira, George Linde, David Miller, Kwena Maphaka, Anrich Nortje, Nqaba Peter, Tabraiz Shamsi, Ryan Rickelton, Andile Simelane and Rassie van der Dussen
