South Africa Triumphs Over USA in T20 World Cup 2024

South Africa won their fifth straight match in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by beating the United States in North Sound on Wednesday, 19th June 2024.
Quinton De Kock scored 74 runs off 40 balls, his highest score in nine T20I innings. In the preceding four matches, he struggled to score just forty-eight runs due to tough batting conditions.
De Kock and Aiden Markram gained one hundred ten runs together in just 60 balls, which is South Africa’s only partnership over 100 runs in their last 19 T20 matches since October 2022. By the middle of the 12h over, they had already defeated their previous highest score in this tournament. They concluded with a total of 194 runs for 4 wickets, the highest score in the 18 Men’s T20 matches played at North Sound. This also ranks as the joint fifth-highest score in the T20 World Cup. It’s the largest-ever score that South Africa attained in the seven T20 matches. Out of the 101 T20 matches that they have played batting first, only 19 times they have scored more runs than this.
South Africa did well in parts but faced setbacks when their players De Kock, Miller, and Markram got out quickly. Despite these losses, they managed to keep the game under control against the Americans. The US team tried hard but couldn't get close enough to challenge South Africa. They hit some good scores in the later part of their innings, with a few overs bringing them more than 10 runs each. But they needed a lot more runs per ball to catch up.
Andries Gous did particularly well in the fifteenth over, scoring 19 runs off Anrich Nortje, including a four and two sixes. He also hit two of the three sixes scored off Tabraiz Shamsi’s bowling in the 19th over, which cost 22 runs in total.
Kagiso Rabada didn’t perform his best in the initial four matches, taking four wickets for eighty-four runs. But he presented his skills on Wednesday, bowling three of his four overs very economically and taking 3 wickets for 18 runs.
Andries Gous played his best game ever, scoring eighty runs not out from Forty-seven balls. He also shared a partnership of ninety-one runs in just forty-three balls with Harmeet Singh for the ninth wicket. This made South Africa’s victory margin narrower, winning by only 18 runs. The Americans scored 176 runs for 6 wickets, which is their fifth-highest total in the 32 T20 matches they’ve played and their second-highest against top teams.
During their recent match, the US team passed over a chance to honor Willie Mays, a legendary baseball player who passed away at 93. Mays was praised as one of the greatest athletes ever, achieving remarkable feats in baseball despite facing racism. It was disappointing that the US cricket team didn’t acknowledge his passing by wearing black armbands and doing anything to pay tribute during their game
