Sri Lanka Clinch Series 2-0 as Rain Washes Out Pallekele ODI
The third One-Day International between Sri Lanka and New Zealand was called off due to rain.
Due to rain, the third and final face-off between Sri Lanka and New Zealand has been called off. On Sunday there were only 21 overs were possible in this highly competitive match held at the Pallekele International Stadium where New Zealand was able to score 112 for 1.
New Zealand who had already lost the series after losing the other two games decided to bat first as they won the toss. Tim Robinson got off to a quick start, hitting boundaries off Dilshan Madhushanka in the first over, but he was dismissed in the fourth over.
Robinson attempted a drive but hit the ball off the toe of his bat, sending it straight to the mid-off fielder and giving Mohamed Shiraz his first ODI wicket. Despite the early setback, Will Young took advantage of the bowlers' poor lengths, hitting two boundaries each off Shiraz and Chamindu Wickramasinghe in back-to-back overs.
On the other hand for the good effects, Henry Nicholls tried using the Laps and Sweeps for giving the good effects. The pair kept the scoreboard ticking with singles during their unbeaten 88-run partnership. Young reached his eighth ODI half-century just before rain stopped play, sealing Sri Lanka's 2-0 victory in the three-match series.
