Suryavanshi, 14, breaks records to keep RR in the game

IPL 2025: Suryavanshi's second-fastest century in IPL history helped the Rajasthan Royals chase down the target of 210 in 15.5 overs.

In an unforgettable IPL match, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history by smashing a century in his third game, leading Rajasthan Royals (RR) to a stunning win over Gujarat Titans (GT). RR chased a massive 210-run target in just 15.5 overs, marking the fastest chase of 200-plus runs in IPL history.
Suryavanshi’s Record-Breaking Innings
The young blood became the youngest T20 centurion, hitting the second-fastest IPL century in just 35 balls. He blasted 11 sixes, the joint-most for an Indian in a single IPL innings, with 94 of his runs coming from boundaries. His fearless batting left seasoned professionals helpless.
Suryavanshi was supported by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who played a solid knock of 70 off 40 balls, but even Jaiswal admitted that Suryavanshi’s performance stole the show. The young star attacked from the start, going for boundaries in 26 of the 38 balls he faced. One of his most breathtaking shots was a six over long-off off Prasidh Krishna’s slower delivery.
GT’s Strong Start
Before RR’s chase, GT’s top order continued their great form. Sai Sudharsan regained the Orange Cap, scoring 39 off 30 balls after being dropped early. His partnership with Shubman Gill helped GT reach 93 runs in 10.2 overs, marking their fifth fifty-plus stand in just nine overs.
However, RR slowed down GT’s scoring briefly, all credit goes to Wanindu Hasaranga’s three tight overs. But GT set off again as Gill and Jos Buttler hit the boundaries, punishing Yudhvir Singh and Jofra Archer. Despite RR pulling things back in the last overs, GT finished with a strong 210/4.
RR’s Explosive Chase
RR’s chase started with Suryavanshi giving a six off Mohammed Siraj’s good-length ball in the first over. Jaiswal had a bad start, and he dropped off early, but he quickly joined the attack with a six and three fours in the third over.
Then came the battle with Ishant Sharma, where he tried bouncing the youngster, but Suryavanshi hooked him for six. He bowled a little too full, and the young player hit the ball over midwicket. Even when Ishant bowled a slower ball, it didn’t stop him—his fast swing made sure the ball went over mid-off for another six runs.
Then Washington Sundar came to control this young left-hand batters, but Suryavanshi’s spirit didn’t get shaky at all. Pull shots, sweeps, and drives helped him become the youngest IPL half-centurion ever, reaching 50 in just 17 balls, the fastest of IPL 2025.
Suryavanshi’s Century and Game’s final
Even Prasidh Krishna, one of the best bowlers this season, tried to stop Vaibhav, but he didn’t stop at all. Suryavanshi hit a six over long-off off the back foot, proving his skill against hard-length deliveries.
IPL debutant Karim Janat suffered heavily, as Suryavanshi smashed a boundary off every ball of the 30-run 10th over, pushing RR to 144 runs, while personally reaching 94 off 34 balls. At this stage, RR needed just a run a ball to win.
The century arrived in style, fittingly with a six off Rashid Khan, one of the greatest T20 bowlers ever. Rashid had managed to keep things tight with 4 overs for just 24 runs, but Suryavanshi finally cracked his defence.
The incredible innings ended with Krishna’s pinpoint yorker, forcing the young batter to walk back. In his debut match, Suryavanshi left the field with tears in his eyes, wanting to show more of his batting. This time, he left as a history-maker.
