T20 World Cup 2024: Amir and Rizwan put Pakistan on the scoreboard

T20 World Cup 2024: Amir and Rizwan put Pakistan on the scoreboard

Pakistan defeated Canada in yesterday's match in the USA, by 7 wickets.

Pakistan won against Canada by 7 wickets in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, safeguarding their desires. Mohammad Rizwan notched 53 runs and helped Pakistan reach the target of 107-run with 15 balls left.
Key Moment: Dominating the middle overs
Pakistan wanted a big win to catch up with the USA. They didn’t hit many big shots in the middle overs, but Babar Azam and Rizwan's 63-run partnership in 62 balls kept them in a good position. Canada attained 10 runs less and lost two more wickets throughout this time, which damaged their chances to score extra at the end.
During the toss:
Babar Azam chose to bowl initially after winning the toss. Pakistan brought in Saim Ayub, a strong opener, instead of Iftikhar Ahmad, who hasn't been playing well.
CANADA:
Initial overs- 30/2 (RR: 5.00; 5x4s, 0x6s)
On a tricky pitch, Aaron Johnson started well by hitting a few boundaries against Shaheen Afridi. He kept up the attack against Naseem Shah and Mohammad Amir too. Eventually, Mohammad Amir bowled a great delivery that got Navneet Dhaliwal out. In the last over of the powerplay, Shaheen Afridi got Pargat Singh out with a tricky delivery that hit the glove and went to the slip fielder.
Middle overs: 47/3 (RR: 5.11; 0x4s, 4x6s)
Canada had a tough start when Nicholas Kirton was run out by Imad Wasim in the first over. In the 10th over, Shreyas Movva and Ravindra Pal Singh were knocked out rapidly by Haris Rauf, weakening Canada more. On the other hand, Aaron Johnson played aggressively, hitting four sixes and reaching his half-century to keep the score moving. Some mistakes by Pakistan in the field also helped Canada. In the 14th over, Johnson was bowled out by Naseem Shah.
Death Overs- 29/1 (RR: 4.80; 2x4s, 1x6s)
With few batters left, Canada played smart in the last six overs. Saad bin Zafar, Kaleem Sana, and Dillon Heylinger took turns hitting and took some risks. They added valuable runs to reach a competitive score, even if it was a bit below average.
PAKISTAN:
Initial overs- 28/1 (RR: 4.67; 1x4s, 0x6s)
Even with some bad balls from the other team, Pakistan couldn't take full advantage. After a careful start against Kaleem Sana and Jeremy Gordon, Saim Ayub was out, caught by the wicketkeeper. Dhaliwal missed a catch at short fine leg just before that. Canada asked for a review against Babar Azam, but the umpire's decision stayed the same.
Middle Overs - 57/1 (RR: 6.33; 2x4s, 1x6s)
Rizwan and Babar tried many times to hit big shots but didn't succeed much. Still, they kept scoring with singles and twos, adding 63 runs for the second wicket. The Canadian bowlers made it tough by bowling accurately, but sometimes they bowled badly, letting Rizwan and Babar get easy runs. Near the end of their partnership, Babar edged a ball to the wicketkeeper and got out.
Death Overs - 22/1 in 2.3 overs (RR: 8.8; 0x4s, 1x6s)
Rizwan, who had struggled a bit while batting earlier, started to hit well against Junaid Siddiqui in the 16th over. He hit a great shot for six runs over extra cover. With only three runs needed to win, Fakhar Zaman was caught out trying to hit Gordon. But Usman Khan scored the last runs with a flick to deep square leg, getting two runs and winning the game for Pakistan.
Summary of Scores:
Canada scored 106 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs (Aaron Johnson 52, Kaleem Sana 13). Pakistan scored 107 runs for 3 wickets in 17.3 overs (Mohammad Rizwan 53, Babar Azam 33). Pakistan won by 7 wickets.
