T20 World Cup 2024: Kirton’s performance earns Canada a significant victory
Canada won by 12 runs against Ireland on Friday it was the first win in the T20 World Cup for them.
Nicholas Kirton scored 49 runs. Canada won by 12 runs against Ireland on Friday. This was Canada’s first win in the T20 World Cup. Canada scored 137/7, the highest total in the tournament at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. They ceased Ireland at 125/7.
What led to the divergence?
Canada got stronger in the middle of their turn to bat, which helped them get ready for a strong finish. Meanwhile, during this time, Ireland lost five players and their main hitters. Even though Ireland tried to score fast at the end, it wasn’t enough to make up for the trouble they had in the middle part of their innings.
CANADA:
Initial Overs: 37/2 (RR: 6.11; 6x4s, 0x6s)
Canada’s first two batters, Aaron Johnson and Navneet Dhaliwal, got out early in the game when Ireland bowled well. Johnson began to hit stronger in the fourth over with certain fortunate shots, but inclusively, they were vigilant with their shots at the beginning.
Middle Overs: 55/2 (RR: 6.11; 4x4s, 0x6s)
Craig Young got a wicket right after the powerplay. Pargat Singh, who started well, got out trying to hit a big shot and was caught. Dilpreet Bajwa then got out by hitting the ball back to the bowler, Delany. Shreyas Movva and Kirton helped the team to recover, setting up for a strong finish, even though they didn’t score very fast.
Death Overs: 45/3 (RR: 9.00; 3x4s, 2x6s)
With a strong start, Kirton began attacking Young in the 16th over. He hit a big six and then a four. Even though the attack didn’t go perfectly, they still managed to score enough runs to stay competitive.
IRELAND:
Initial Overs: 31/1 (RR: 5.11; 2x4s, 0x6s)
It was hard to hit the ball well at the start because it was moving a lot. They hit a couple of bad balls for boundaries, but there weren’t many chances to score. Paul Stirling got frustrated with many dot balls and hit one to the keeper, getting out in the last over of the powerplay.
Middle Overs: 43/5 (RR: 4.77; 1x4s, 0x6s)
Canada’s great bowling and fielding helped them charge of the game. The pitch was tough for batters, and the pressure kept growing. Ireland’s batters made mistakes and got out quickly. Dillon Heylinger took two wickets during this time.
Death Overs: 51/1 (RR: 10.20; 5x4s, 2x6s)
George Dockrell and Mark Adair tried to help their team catch up. Junaid Siddiqui and Kaleem Sana faced their strong batting. But the game was already too hard to win on the slow pitch. Even though they scored quickly, it wasn’t enough to stop Canada from Winning.
Summary of Scores:
Canada scored 137 runs in 20 overs. Nicholas Kirton scored 49 runs and Shreyas Movva scored 37 runs. Whereas Ireland scored 125 runs in 20 overs. Mark Adair scored 34 runs and George Dockrell scored 30 runs not out. Canada secured its victory by 12 runs.
