T20 World Cup 2024: Pandya, Kuldeep Secured India’s Win Against Bangladesh
This was five more than what Bangladesh managed. What's impressive is that 10 of India's sixes came after the PowerPlay, which was a crucial factor in their win.
In Antigua, Hardik Pandya scored fifty runs, and Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets, assisting India to win by fifty runs opposing Bangladesh. This favorable result leads India near to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup.
The Divergence: India’s great batting skills
When Bangladesh chose to bowl first, captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto wanted to limit India to a score of "150 to 160". But India hit a whopping 13 sixes in their innings, the most they've ever hit in a T20 World Cup game. This was five more than what Bangladesh managed. What's impressive is that 10 of India's sixes came after the PowerPlay, which was a crucial factor in their win.
India:
The Initial Overs - 53/1 (4x4s, 3x6s)
Bangladesh let India bat first on a good pitch. They commenced with Shakib al Hasan's left-arm spin and Mahedi Hasan's off-spin. At first, it appeared like a bad choice as Shakib gave away 25 runs in nine balls, inclusive of a big six by Rohit Sharma. Nevertheless, Shakib retrieved well and took the necessary wicket of India's captain, Virat Kohli, who was seized at extra cover. Despite this, Kohli played well and helped India get their best PowerPlay tournament score.
The Middle Overs - 81/3 (5x4s, 5x6s)
When Kohli hit a six off Rishad Hossain, it seemed like he was ready for a big score. But Tanzim Sakib had a different plan. The fast bowler surprised Kohli with a clever delivery that got him out. Then Surykumar Yadav also got out soon after hitting a six. This put pressure on India's team to recover. Rishabh Pant played cautiously at first, scoring around 20 runs. Then he started attacking Mustafizur Rahman, hitting two fours and a six in one over. Rishad Hossain also faced tough hits, but Pant made a mistake and got caught out, trying a risky shot. Despite this, Pant's batting helped India score quickly in the middle of the match, at about 9 runs per over.
The Final Overs - 62/1 (3x4s, 5x6s)
In the game, Dube hit three big sixes that helped India score well in the last five overs. After Dube got out, Hardik Pandya took charge and quickly made fifty runs in just 27 balls. He hit 4 fours and 3 sixes. India hit a total of 13 sixes in this match, which is more than their previous best of 11 sixes in a T20 World Cup match back in 2007 against England. Mustafizur, one of the bowlers, faced the brunt of India's aggressive batting and ended up conceding 48 runs without taking any wickets. On the other hand, Tanzim bowled well, giving away only 32 runs and taking 2 wickets in his four overs.
Bangladesh:
The Initial Overs - 42/1 (5x4s, 1x6s)
Bangladesh didn't score as many runs as India in the first six overs because Jasprit Bumrah bowled well, only giving away 6 runs in his two overs without getting a wicket. He almost got one though, if Pant had caught Tanzid Hasan. India got a crucial wicket just before that thanks to Pandya, who slowed down his bowling and got Litton Das caught by a fielder at deep square leg. Rohit tried using Axar Patel to bowl, but it didn't help much. Still, India managed to keep Bangladesh from scoring too fast, even though Bangladesh had their best start of this tournament with a 35-run opening partnership.
The Middle Overs - 66/3 (3x4s, 4x6s)
On a tricky pitch that helped the ball spin and bounce sharply, Kuldeep Yadav was a big challenge for Bangladesh's middle-order batsmen. He didn't just make it hard for them to score runs but also took important wickets: Tanzid Hasan and Towhid Gridoy were out lbw, and he caught Shakib at cover. Kuldeep finished with impressive stats of 3 wickets for 19 runs. India's pace bowlers only bowled two overs in this period, both by Pandya, who gave away 22 runs. Bangladesh once again struggled against spin bowling in this World Cup. They have lost the most wickets (21) to spinners in this tournament compared to any other team.
The Final Overs - 38/4 (2x4s, 3x6s)
After spinners slowed down Bangladesh, India took control of the game. Then, India's fast bowlers finished off the game. Bumrah bowled well in his second session, getting Nazmul Hossain Shanto out, and later ended Rishad's good play. Arshdeep also got two wickets, Jaker Ali and Mahmudullah. Bangladesh, who chose to chase, couldn't even score 150 runs.
Summary Of Scores -
India scored 196 runs with Pandya making 50 runs and Pant 36 runs. Bangladesh made 146 runs with Shanto scoring 40 runs. India won the match by 50 runs. Kuldeep took 3 wickets for India and Bumrah took 2 wickets.
