T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma and Kuldeep Singh lead India to semifinals.
T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma and Kuldeep Singh lead India to semifinals.
India scored 205 runs in 20 overs. Rohit Sharma made 92 runs and Suryakumar Yadav made 31 runs. Whereas, Australia scored 181 runs in 20 overs.
Rohit Sharma played an amazing game, scoring 92 runs from 41 balls, assisting India to win by 24 runs against Australia in St. Lucia. Travis Head also played well, as he did in the 2023 World Cup final, but Kuldeep Yadav's great bowling made it hard for Australia. After Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell got out, followed by Head, Australia couldn't catch up.
Where was the Victory Secured?
In the first part of India's turn to bat, Rohit played amazingly well. Despite the windy conditions and the St Lucia ground being good for hitting sixes, the pitch wasn't easy, especially with the older ball. That's why Rohit's batting was outstanding. No other player hit the ball as cleanly as India's captain did. His amazing hitting against Mitchell Starc (right after Virat Kohli got out without scoring) showed how serious he was about winning, which surprised Australia. Australia did better later in the game, but India's score of 205 always looked stronger than usual.
INDIA:
The Initial overs - 60/1 [RR: 10.00, 4s/6s: 5/5]
India started badly in their cricket match when Virat Kohli got out without scoring any runs early on. This extended his streak of poor performance in the competition. Australia was pleased with this beginning. However, Rohit Sharma chose to respond. And he responded with great determination. He struck the Australian bowler Starc for 29 runs across one over, including four sixes. This altered the game's direction and positioned India favorably. Rohit continued to assault, making it difficult for the Australian bowlers.
The Middle overs - 102/3 [RR: 11.33, 4s/6s: 8/7]
Australia aimed to slow down the scoring after the initial overs, but Rohit Sharma continued aggressively. In spite of losing Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav joined Rohit with confident strokes, scoring 54 runs in four overs post-powerplay. Even the tactics of Adam Zampa couldn't stop India's momentum. Mitchell Marsh's return of Mitchell Starc finally made an impact, dismissing both batsmen and easing Australia's situation, although India had already built a strong position by then.
The Final overs - India 43/1 [RR: 8.60, 4s/6s: 3/1]
After Rohit and Suryakumar got out, Australia did a good job stopping India from scoring too many runs at the end of their batting turn. Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins bowled very well, especially Hazlewood who did great despite the tough situation. There was one over by Marcus Stoinis where India scored a lot (14 runs), but overall, Australia managed to keep India from reaching a very high score like 220 runs.
AUSTRALIA:
The Initial overs - 65/1 [RR: 10.83, 4s/6s: 7/4]
Australia’s team lost an important player early on when David Warner got out in the first over. But then Head and Marsh started hitting the ball well and scoring lots of runs, especially against Jasprit Bumrah. This surprised the Indian team, who couldn't stop them from scoring fast in the first part of the game. After a while, both batters seemed comfortable with the field and started playing well.
The Middle Overs - 76/3 [RR: 8.44, 4s/6s: 4/6]
During the middle part of the game, India and Australia had different experiences. India needed a breakthrough, and Axar Patel made a fantastic catch at deep square leg. It was a crucial moment because it stopped Australia from scoring a big hit. Maxwell and Head were doing well for Australia, scoring runs quickly. But Kuldeep Yadav got Maxwell out, and Axar Patel later dismissed Stoinis. Australia, who were in a strong position, suddenly struggled, and India finished the middle part of the game strongly.
The Final Overs - 40/3 [RR: 8.00, 4s/6s: 1/2]
Australia batted slower towards the end of their innings, much like India did earlier. Head, trying to score fast, got out when his team needed him most. Australia struggled after losing wickets between the 10th and 15th overs. Bumrah's bowling made it tough for Australia in the final overs. Axar Patel bowled well in the 16th over, putting pressure on Australia. They couldn't recover after that and lost the game.
Summary of Scores:
India scored 205 runs in 20 overs. Rohit Sharma made 92 runs and Suryakumar Yadav made 31 runs. Whereas, Australia scored 181 runs in 20 overs. Travis Head scored 76 runs, and Mitchell Marsh made 37 runs. India won by 24 runs.
