T20I Batter Dawid Malan, England's former Took Retirement From International Cricket
Dawid Malan, England's former No.1-ranked T20I batter, has announced his retirement from international cricket.
At the age of 37, Dawid Malan, England's former and No.1 batter has announced his retirement from International cricket.
Malan is able to play 22 Tests, 30 ODIs and 62 T20Is and comes under one of those two batters who is able to make centuries in all of these formats. Still, he is not included in the England Squad after last Year's 50-over World Cup in India and He confirmed his choice after being left out of the upcoming white-ball series against Australia.
In 2017, Malan made a strong start in T20I debut with 78 runs from 44 balls against South Africa. However, his big break with England came during the Ashes tour the following winter, where he scored his only Test century. He made 140 runs from 227 balls while batting alongside Jonny Bairstow in Perth.
He became well-known for his performance in T20I cricket, especially after England won the ODI World Cup in 2019. He impressed the team with his ability to score runs quickly, and he even scored a century off 48 balls during a tour of New Zealand.
He achieved the top ICC battings rankings in September 2020 for the T20 Cricket and in March he got the honour of being the fastest men’s player who has reached 1000 runs in just 24 innings. Also with that, he was a T20 World Cup winner in 2022.
Because the 50-over team was doing well, Malan had to wait longer to join the ODI team even though many people thought that ODI was the format that suited him best. Some people criticized him for starting his innings slowly and then playing aggressively towards the end during his T20I matches.
He took advantage of his opportunity by scoring five ODI hundreds in just 15 innings between June 2022 and September 2023. This made a strong case for him to replace England's current opener, Jason Roy, in the 2023 World Cup squad. In the second match of the tournament, he scored another hundred and helped England win against Bangladesh in Dharamsala. However, despite his efforts, he couldn't avoid being affected by the team's overall disappointing performance.
Malan is expected to be highly sought after in T20 leagues now that his England career is over. He recently played for the Oval Invincibles and helped them win the Men's Hundred. Earlier, he was part of the Trent Rockets squad that won the 2022 title. He also played for Sunrisers Eastern Cape and helped them win the second season of the SA20. Additionally, he was part of the Multan Sultans in the PSL.
