T20I Series Squad has been announced by Sri Lanka against India, New Captain Named

A new captain has been announced by the Sri Lanka team and that would be Batsman Charith Asalanka for the T20I three-match home series against India.

A new captain has been announced by the Sri Lanka team and that would be Batsman Charith Asalanka for the T20I three-match home series against India. Asalanka takes the place of all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who stepped down after Sri Lanka was knocked out in the first round of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, India is all set for the tour of Sri Lanka for three T20Is and as many ODIs. Well, Sri Lanka made Charith Asalanka, and India has decided Surya Kumar to be the new captain for T20I. Both players have previously served as captains, with Asalanka leading Sri Lanka in two T20Is against Bangladesh earlier this year.

Just as other seniors like Dinest Chandimal, Maheesh Theekshana, and Dasun Shanaka Hasaranga are going to remain in the team. There are no such reports if there is going to be any change in the captaincy in the future. The ODI team is currently being led by Kusal Mendis, while Dhananjaya de Silva holds the position of Test captain for Sri Lanka.

India who has worn the crown of T20 World Champions, and has already reached Sri Lanka on Monday and is all set for their three T20 matches going to be held on Saturday at Pallekele in Kandy. And the ODI series is going to be played at the  Premadasa Stadium in Colombo starting from 1st August 2024. 

For India, this is going to be a new beginning of a new period in different ways, especially in the T20s. Last month, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja all announced their retirement from the format following their T20 World Cup victory. After the tournament, Rahul Dravid followed through on his earlier announcement to step down. He has been succeeded by Gautam Gambhir, who is taking on his first assignment as the new leader for the Sri Lanka tour.
