Travis Head inks new contract with Adelaide Strikers
Travis Head has signed a one-year contract with Adelaide Strikers in the upcoming BBL season.
Travis Head the top-ranked batter for T20I has recently signed up a one-year contract with Adelaide Strikers. His playing strategies were unbelievable throughout 2023-24. The left-handed player couldn't play in the entire 2023-24 season because of national duties, and it’s still unclear how much he will participate in the upcoming season.
Australia recently has a five-match test series against India at home Although the Strikers have three games left after that series, it's uncertain if Australia’s national team players will be available because they have a tour of Sri Lanka scheduled for February.
Head’s retention strengthens the Strikers' batting lineup, which already includes power hitters like Matt Short, Chris Lynn, and Alex Carey, along with England’s Ollie Pope. His signing completes the Strikers' squad as the South Australian team aims for a strong BBL season.
“I’m excited to re-sign with the Strikers for another year and can’t wait to rejoin the team under our new coach, Tim Paine,” Head said. “I love wearing the blue whenever I can and look forward to helping the team go even further after their impressive run to the finals last summer.”
Since winning the BBL title in 2017-18, the Strikers have made the playoffs in four of the next six seasons but haven’t reached the final again. Tim Paine, the former Australian captain and now the head coach of the Strikers' men’s team, expressed optimism about Head’s retention.
“We know Trav has a busy international schedule, but we also know how much he loves returning to the blue whenever he can,” Paine said. “He’s been in incredible form across all formats in the past year, as shown by his outstanding 154 not out off 129 balls in a recent ODI against England.”
2024 has been a remarkable year for Head so far, with 539 runs from 15 innings at an incredible strike rate of 178.47, including four half-centuries. This marks the second consecutive year Head has maintained a strike rate above 175, but unlike last year, he has balanced aggression with consistency in 2024, making him a powerful force at the top of the order for Australia.
His most recent dominant performances came during Australia's tour of Scotland and England, where he was especially unstoppable in the powerplay.
