UAE to Host ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Confirmed As New Venue
The Women's T20 World Cup 2024 has been moved out of Bangladesh and will now be held in the UAE.
The news has been confirmed by the ICC that the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is decided to be held in October and has been Relocated from Bangladesh.
The Ninth edition of the tournament will now be held in the United Arab Emirates and the event is going to be hosted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). There will be two places where the tournament will be held those are Dubai and Sharjah starting from October 3 to 20th.
A statement has been made by ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice in which he said that it would be a shame for us to not host the Women T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as it would be a memorable stage for all of us.
“I want to thank the BCB team for trying everything possible to host the event in Bangladesh. Unfortunately, travel warnings from several participating teams’ governments made it impossible. However, Bangladesh will still have the hosting rights, and we hope to bring an ICC global event there soon.” he added.
He thanked the Emirates Cricket Board for hosting the event in the place of BCB Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their support and they are excited to see ICC global events in two of these countries in 2026.
The UAE, where the ICC headquarters are located, has emerged as a major cricket hub in recent years. It has hosted many qualifier tournaments and co-hosted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2021 with Oman.
UAE has all the best facilities as well as infrastructure and that is all set for hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup. The UAE’s increasing importance in cricket is evident from the rise of both its men’s and women’s teams, which are currently ranked 16th in the ICC T20I Team Rankings.
