Uganda’s bowlers along with Riazat earned their first T20 World Cup Win
PNG’s bowlers tried hard after they made their lowest T20I score ever, but Uganda stayed calm and won in the end.
Uganda won their first game in the T20 World Cup! They played in competition with Papua New Guinea (PNG) at Providence Stadium in Guyana. Both the teams desired to win. PNG chose to bat first but was unable to score many runs, only 77 runs before all their players were knocked out. Uganda also fought and dropped five players when they had only 26 runs. But they kept trying and finally won in the 19th over.
Riazat Ali Shah, Uganda’s young player, played carefully and scored 33 runs off 56 balls. He nearly helped Uganda to win, but they fell short by just three runs. PNG made faults in their batting, and they also conceded 15 extra runs through wides, which didn't help their score either.
But the big news of the night was Uganda's bowling in the first half of the game, led by the duo of 43-year-old Frank Nsubuga and 21-year-old Juma Miyagi.
Both proved they deserved to play in this match with their excellent bowling. Nsubuga had the most cost-effective performance (at least four overs) ever in T20 World Cup history, taking 2 wickets while only giving away 4 runs in 4 overs. He also joined the ranks of only a few bowlers to bowl 20 dot balls in a T20 World Cup game, following Ajantha Mendis in 2012.
Ugandan bowlers dominate PNG -
Alpesh Ramjani from Uganda got a wicket early in the game! He bowled the ball, and Assad Vala from Papua New Guinea (PNG) tried to hit it but missed, and it hit the stumps.
Then, Miyagi and Cosmas Kyewuta, both from Uganda, continued putting pressure on PNG with their fast bowling.
Sese Bau, a left-handed batter from PNG, tried to hit the ball, but Miyagi caught it while moving backward. Kyewuta also got a big wicket when Tony Ura, who usually scores lots of runs for PNG, was caught by Mukasa.
Later, Lega Siaka from PNG tried to score more runs but got run out while trying to take a risky second run. This happened because he felt stressed after not being able to score many runs against the fast bowlers.
Nsubuga Hits the Mark!
When Nsubuga bowled the ball that hit Charles Amini's leg stump in the 11th over, he became the second-oldest bowler to get a wicket in the T20 World Cup. Later, Nsubuga also made Hiri Hiri out, although at first, it seemed like the batter had stepped too far forward. But after checking the replay, it was confirmed that the batter was out, which was good news for Uganda.
Ramjani got his second wicket when he made Kiplin Doriga out, trapping him leg-before wicket (lbw) for 12 runs. Then, Captain Brian Masaba bowled a tricky delivery that got past Chad Soper's defenses.
Miyagi and Kyewuta took the last two wickets, and Papua New Guinea (PNG) was all out just before the end of their innings.
"Nao Strikes Back!"
Alei Nao from Papua New Guinea (PNG) got off to a great start by taking out Mukasa in the very first over, just like he did in the previous match. Then, Norman Vanua removed Robinson Obuya by catching the ball at mid-on without having to move much.
After that, Nao got Simon Ssesazi out leg before wicket (lbw) in the third over, and PNG was in trouble at 6 for 3. Ramjani hit a nice boundary through the offside, trying to help Uganda out of trouble. But Soper bowled a great delivery in the sixth over, which went past Ramjani's defenses.
Later, when PNG captain Vala caught and bowled Dinesh Nakrani, PNG was doing well in the match.
"Riazat's Calmness Wins the Day"
When Uganda's team struggled at 35 runs for 5 wickets, Riazat got lucky when Amini missed catching him at just 8 runs. Riazat hit a nice shot for four runs in the 11th over, which helped his team.
He then partnered with Miyagi and they scored 35 runs together, but unfortunately, Miyagi got out because of a misunderstanding between them. Even though his partner was out, Riazat stayed calm and focused. Papua New Guinea (PNG) also made some mistakes, like dropping Waiswa, which helped Uganda.
However, Riazat eventually got out in the 18th over, but by then, Uganda was already close to winning.
