Under-19 Participation Rules have been Modified by BCCI
The BCCI has amended the rules for participation for Under-19 players for the coming season.
The Under 19 participation rules have been revised by the Board of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) for the new upcoming season and it has been is relaxation in some of the clauses.
In a recent communique to the state association, signed by general manager Abey Kuruvilla, the BCCI announced that players who fail the TW3 test (Tanner Whitehouse 3 ) can now participate in Under-19 competitions for three years. Previously, they were only allowed for two years.
The current rule states: “Players who fail the TW3 test at the Under-19 level but have their birth registered within two years of birth can participate in Under-19 tournaments for two years.” The new rule changes this to allow these players to participate for up to three years.
The main point here is about the birth player’s registration. Each birth certificate shows the date of birth registration, and the BCCI allows up to two years for this registration. Recently, births are often registered within six months, but that’s not the issue here.
There will be a "TW3 test, or Tanner Whitehouse 3 method conducted, which is a bone test or skeletal maturity test that’s main motive is to know about the age of a player. Which is performed under-16 level.
Another rule that is amended is for the players registering birth surpassing two years. The rule that is prevailing right now states that players who have completed the TW3 test at the Under-16 level but have a two-year birth registration are allowed for Under-19 participation and as per the new rule those players will now be allowed for under-19 participation.
There is also one more rule that allows entry directly into the Under-19 category players who have a birth certificate registered under two years of birth can play in the Under-19 category for three years. Previously, they were only allowed to play for two years.
And if the birth certificate is registered more than two years of birth that will allow for only one year of direct participation in the Under-19 category.
But significantly enough, if the birth certificate of a player is registered after more than two years of birth, he will be allowed only one year of direct participation in the Under-19 category. This is an unchanged rule which is an existing rule.
