Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), congratulated Virat Kohli on completing 16 years in international cricket on Sunday, August 18.
The king of Cricket Virat Kohli has completed 16 Years in International cricket for which Jay Shah has congratulated him.
Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary, congratulated Virat Kohli for completing 16 years in international cricket. Kohli made his debut on this day in 2008 in an ODI against Sri Lanka, shortly after leading India to victory in the Under-19 World Cup. Shah praised Kohli on 'X', calling him a legend and celebrating his remarkable career.
In his first international match, Virat Kohli opened the batting with Gautam Gambhir, who is now India's head coach, and scored 12 runs. By the end of his debut series, Kohli had accumulated 159 runs over five matches, averaging 31.80.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Virat Kohli's IPL team since 2008, also congratulated him on 'X' for his 16 years in international cricket. They praised him, calling him the "King" and celebrating his journey from debut to being recognized as one of the greatest of all time (GOAT). They highlighted his relentless passion and how he has set a new standard for cricket.
Since his debut, Virat Kohli has become a powerhouse in Indian cricket. He has scored 13,906 runs in 295 ODIs, holding the record for the most centuries by a male batter in this format with 50 centuries, 27 of which were made during run-chases. Additionally, he has accumulated 8,848 runs in 113 Test matches and 4,188 runs in 125 T20Is.
Virat Kohli has had an illustrious career, winning the ODI World Cup in 2011, the Champions Trophy in 2013, and the T20 World Cup in 2024, after which he retired from T20Is. As a Test captain, he led India to victory in 40 out of 68 matches, making him the most successful Indian Test captain in terms of wins.
