Women’s Indian Team Facing Challenges Against Sri Lanka

India lost to Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final recently.

Chamari Athapaththu is not happy about people criticizing India's strong batting for not doing well in recent matches. She knows that Sri Lanka's top batters have also not been performing well and are likely to struggle against India's good bowlers.
As they were defeated in both of the games played in Sharjah, their way to the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final is not gonna be easy in the second half of the group stages. But When the sun rises on Wednesday (October 9) in Dubai, Sri Lanka will step onto the field as underdogs in their match against India. This underdog status has been a source of freedom for them in the past, as seen in their victory in the Asia Cup final in July.
At Dambulla, their dominance has been challenged in Asian Cricket in front of everyone and now Harmanpreet and the team need to take revenge and India needs to win this game at any cost. As they wish to get into the top two finish, they not only need to win all the points available but also need to improve their net run rate significantly to stay ahead of the threat from Pakistan and New Zealand. Their previous experience playing in Dubai will be helpful, unlike Sri Lanka, who will be playing their first World Cup match at that location.
India received a big boost with their captain recovering from a neck injury before the important match. This means they have a full squad of 15 players to choose from, as long as Pooja Vastrakar, who practised and bowled the day before the match, also passes her fitness test. India is making sure to be fully prepared after being surprised by New Zealand, which had a big impact on their net run rate.
In their 25 T20I matches, India has won 19, lost 5, and had 1 no-result against Sri Lanka. However, Sri Lanka's recent win has changed the dynamics of this rivalry. Athapaththu & Co. will try to replicate their previous success as they aim to defend their title as Asian Cup champions, or at least create some chaos in the group stage before their likely exit following two initial big losses.
