Yastika Bhatia Rejoins India's Proven Squad for T20 World Cup

Yastika Bhatia Rejoins India's Proven Squad for T20 World Cup

Talented Harmanpreet Kaur will lead a 15-member Indian squad unveiled on Tuesday for the Women's T20 World Cup in the UAE from October 3.

India has announced a familiar squad for the women's T20 World Cup 2024, keeping most of the players who helped the team reach the final of the women's T20 Asia Cup in July this year.
Fourteen out of the 15 players in the World Cup squad also played in the Asia Cup, with Uma Chetry being the only one to miss out. Instead of Uma Chetry, India has chosen Yastika Bhatia for the squad. However, her participation depends on her fitness, as does Shreyanka Patil's, after she injured her left hand during an Asia Cup match against Pakistan.
The wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia was in the Mumbai Indians Team and the third-highest run-scorer in WPL 2024 as she scored 204 runs in 8 outings. The first T20 she played was against Bangladesh Sylhet in April but not playing anything after that. Currently, she is recovering at the BCCI's National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru due to an injury in her left knee.
Tanuja Kanwar, who stepped in for Patil in the Asia Cup squad, isn't in the main team but is listed as a travelling reserve. Joining her as reserves are wicketkeeper-batter Chetry and fast bowler Saima Thakor. Batter Raghvi Bist and legspinner Priya Mishra, who were recently with the India A squad in Australia, are named as non-travelling reserves.
Harmanpreet Kaur will be leading the team, and Smriti Mandhana is going to be the vice-captain. For spinning the batting there will be Shefali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma. Fast-bowling is going to be led by  Renuka Singh along with the Pooja Vastrakar. Deepti, Radha Yadav and Patil as they are the main spinners.
India is placed in Group A at the World Cup with Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka and is aiming for their first women's T20 World Cup title. The tournament was originally planned to take place in Bangladesh but was moved to the UAE due to widespread anti-government protests in Bangladesh.
The tournament kicks off on October 3 in Sharjah, with the final scheduled for October 20 in Dubai. India's first match is against New Zealand in Dubai on October 4, followed by a match against Pakistan on October 6 at the same venue.
